Today, there are hundreds of twinning links and partnerships between Europe's local authorities and those from Africa, Latin America, Asia, the Caribbean and the Pacific which aim to improve the daily lives of people in the poorer countries of our common world, the quality of our services, and the performance capability of our local administrations.
The concept of local or regional north-south cooperation continues to grow and evolve, yet it can be difficult to find enough reliable, up-to-date information on twinning in one single place.
That is why the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) has created this website with the support of the European Commission. It has a dual purpose:
First, to bring together, in one website, useful information on local government twinning and partnerships for development.
Second, to help local authorities from Europe and from the poorer countries of the South to find a partner, with a joint commitment to work together to improve people's lives.
